Dad

It’s the evening

A hearty meal ingested

A time for pop to relax

To loosen up the belt

and let the belly breath

And pass a little gas

None of us would dare

to say a word

Or to comment on anything

Better to leave alone

With no angry glares

And laugh, as just a funny thing

You see dad was always kind

And would always take care

Of each and everyone

But it was at that time

That was was his alone

When his day was done

Mom would often decry

An alert meant

To recommend guidance and care

That we might be getting close

And much more

Than we should dare

Sometime a subtle grunt

A snort or a groan

And maybe a bit of a warning

Then on to the tv show

Dad with clicker in hand

Soon to bed, to await for the morning

And though those times

Seemed uneventful

And seemingly banal

In talks many years later

With my siblings, we agreed

they were happy times for all

Now gone, for many years

But kind memories

Just the same

Proud to have been blessed

With his presence

To that we do exclaim

Grace for a New Year

The subtle words that speak with kindness

The gentle touch that you feel throughout

The look from eyes that caress your soul

And finally a knowing, what it’s all about

It may come but once in life

The golden thread that binds

The feelings in your heart

Now gracefully, laid upon your mind

Through waters turbulent

And moments of great despair

The times that seemed so dark

You lose, all that you fear

From a smile, not asked for

Or a sign given, above in the sky

A realization within soul

And no thought to question why

A moment in its grand appearance

Within the blink of an eye

Awareness most becoming

And all beauty, to apply

May you take with you

This that has been bestowed

As new life moving forward

From a seed that has been sowed

May GODS blessings be within you, and upon you

Time Lapse

The grace of the day

With all bones relaxed

Laying in my recliner

The tv remote in my hand

A cup of coffee next to me

Life couldn’t be finer

No wishes to be in the past

And no future that I’m looking

Just the moment, I’m within

No reason to rewind

or to fast forward

To start over, or to end

I’ve heard ‘ an old fart’ God knows I do

and ‘ old as dust’ with others,

even less kind

I’ve reached that age, that I just smile,

and know it’s waiting

a moment for you in time

But yet, let me not dwell

It’s likely I won’t remember,

anyway

Just smile and grin

As I’m passing gas

And enjoying my day

Everyone expects that my age

Is an excuse for much of

the way I am

And we won’t tell, and let them believe’

That it’s our secret

Just our bit of a scam

So for today, I’ll have the tv blaring

And do it while

I read a book

And pass frustration to the youngens

When I leave the phone,

off the hook

So let time do its work

present itself and give me

what ever I am due

While I lie around in my skivies

Pick up nothing around the house

Be sure to have nothing to review

May you grow older and not old 🌟

Sixth Grade Summer

There was a sweet song

Once heard

A young warbler

A melodious tune

As the Sun shines

And dew glistens

Much to feel

As you listen

Ambience surrounds

Cheeks aglow

A lick of the lips

A sense you know

The summer upon us

Sun high in the sky

Imagination in clouds

As they stroll by

Nothing on hand

But to be happy and play

Sandcastles built

Just a leisurely day

Soon would come the time

That mother would call upon me

To come and replenish

Then again to be free

Back with the guys

And a girl or two

Back to kids stuff

Until the day had passed thru

There would be of course

remarks of great wisdom

Knowing it’s part

Of the growing system

All along the way, there would be nods

Of agreement

Returning of course

To another disagreement

The things that we knew

But knew nothing about

But convinced ourselves

There could be no doubt

Imagining what was said

As if it were real

A wave of the arms, What the heck

. . .it ain’t no big deal

As the day waned, a call from mom

As a day, again passed by

Friendship had been shared

Not for any reason, or any reason why

An entity full grown

And clad as a child

No need of direction

But to run and be wild

If you think we don’t understand

Or pay attention to the rules

Within your image, that you

Raised a fool

We are just learning

With a bump and bruise

To learn how to win

We often must lose

A misguided rock

That may have been thrown

Quickly running away

To hide in the home

Denial of what, may have been done

It wasn’t me or any one I know

It’s not a lie!

As sad eyes are shown

Soon my father would arrive

And I’d explain once again

Just what had happened

On his face, a subtle grin

There would be no justice met out

As the evening began

Just that look given

They knew I’d understand

As a young one, both proud and indignant

But not much at being brave

It was just those looks

That made me be, afraid

And then there were older

Brothers and sisters

Their own torment

That they would administer

Then finally bedtime would come

A chance escape within

To awake to a new day

And start all over again

A new bird, a new song

A new sun, and fresh dew

New clouds to imagine

As they pass thru

To my pals, to exclaim what had happened

To tell the now true story

To exult in all its details

And in all my glory

Yada yada was all that was heard

With nodding of the accomplishment

Then on with playing, and no need, for

Further acknowledgement

This was the summer

Within its poetic cadence

The shaping and sculpting

That certainly made us

All the rest. . .heck that’s for later 🤪

A Gathering Within

Of the awakening to the present

And a new awareness that is

Nothing seeping in from the past,

Or reaching for the future

As moments strung together

As your tapestry

Sewn together, given in its assembly

For you to nurture

Those whom you have loved

Those which you’ve given your admiration

The kindness perhaps to look back on

And the smiles of reflection

With your heart as one of soul

Softness and sincerity

Wishing gentleness and peace

Without exception

May you take with you

Into this day, the blessings of the light

That shines upon you

And pass it on freely

As the gift given from the Lord

That you might feel

A moment of clarity, that all creation

Is. . .Holy
