The costume of the night
As little ghosts and goblins begin to roam the streets at night, all attired in their change
Some very young, that when at the mirror would scare themselves, and some fearlessly brave
Dressed as pirates and Superman, princesses and queens
Those whom were vampires, and ghosts who were sure they couldn’t be seen
Within their grasp held the bounty as they went from door to door
The fascination of gifts given freely, always hoping there’d be more
With pumpkins on the steps, webs that line the porch and a bat or two hanging around, so much to behold
With a candle in the window, an aura of its own, a woman dressed as a witch, giving candy, looking so old
It is one night that comes but once a year, for some to transform into something else
Mostly for the treats, and an occasional trick, to be something other than themselves
So be kind to them as their sometimes spooky glare, presents happiness inside
And offer them a smile, or a frightened look as if you are surprised
