In the Pause

In the pause, between the awakened,
and the moment of transition to which you seek
That last blink of awareness,
as you slip gently into sleep

Where there is a different state of being,
a different way to be
With eyes closed, within the darkness,
and another way to see

An enhancement of images,
that can be seen and sometimes even heard,
to have come to a different place,
perhaps lessons to be learned

Some that can be frightening,
some in a mystical way,
others that seem endless,
until they’ve gone away

The ones you wish to hold onto,
and have one more time,
the ones quickly forgotten,
but those still left,
on the fringes of your mind

As it all passes, from that momentary pause,
where you drifted into another world,
some real, some that will be lost
All indelibly etched, within the library you retain,
and often remembered later on,
as if you’ve turned the page

Then the light as eyes once again,
peer out from the night,
all things rearranged,
within a different form of sight

To wonder if now is here, or if it had just passed,
not always easy, or what it was, easily grasped
Take with you, what can be remembered,
write it down to call on later on

Not that your depiction, is something,
you can rely upon
For in that place, within the ether,
where you whence did dwell

Only you will know, and God is the only one,
which you can ask, or you can tell
For others may listen in fascination,
and with good intent,
but you and only another, will know,
what it really meant
